The Moral Problem

Abstract

One can have a problem with morality in various ways. For example, everyone is familiar with the feeling of not knowing exactly what is morally required in a situation. Some people not only have moral problems in this sense, but also a problem with morality itself, just as they might have a problem with their neighbour or with abstinence: they find it difficult to deal with. Young repeat offenders, for example, have difficulty recognising what is obviously morally required or acting in accordance with this recognition.
