Jakob Lohmar joined our group as a postdoc in April 2026. His current work focuses on moral theory, axiology, population ethics and interpersonal aggregation. He is also interested in social epistemology, moral uncertainty, and various topics relevant to global priorities research, such as risks from artificial intelligence and the importance of humanity’s long-term future.
Jakob recently submitted his DPhil thesis “On the Value of Happy People and the Moral Importance of Low-Welfare Species” at the University of Oxford. Before that, he did a Master in philosophy at the University of Bonn and a Bachelor in economics and philosophy at the University of Münster. He has also worked as a Research Assistant at the Global Priorities Institute in Oxford, and as a Research Associate at the University of Cologne and at the University of Mainz.
