Cyriak Schmitz completed his doctorate at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology on the history of the idea of moral progress in the utilitarian tradition. He is a lecturer at KIT since October 2024.
His areas of interest include the philosophy of Cicero, the philosophy of science, as well as questions of normative ethics and metaethics. He is currently working on the history of comfort writings and the arguments they contain. He is also involved in the project E.E.C Jones and British Women Philosophers in an Age of Transition.
